Ta’Qali, Malta – The Malta Aviation Museum is thrilled to announce the launch of “Storia dell’aviazione nella Sicilia orientale e in Calabria“, a landmark new book by celebrated Italian author Fabrizio Egizi, published by Giambra Editore.
This event promises to be an unmissable experience for aviation enthusiasts, history buffs, and anyone fascinated by the unique Mediterranean heritage that shaped modern aeronautics.
Egizi’s latest work is the final piece in a multi-year project that traces the evolution of aviation in Eastern Sicily and Calabria. With vivid storytelling and historical insight, Egizi brings to life Sicily’s transformation into an “aeronautical laboratory” of the 20th century. From early airships and biplanes to cutting-edge jets, Sicily’s skies have seen it all, with both the Royal Air Force and the Italian Air Force laying the groundwork for the region’s aviation legacy and its impact on local economies and communities.
In a captivating celebration of the historical bonds between Sicily and Malta, the Malta Aviation Museum will host a special presentation of Egizi’s book, spotlighting the shared aviation heritage of these two Mediterranean islands. Guests will enjoy exclusive access to never-before-seen photos and archival materials that reveal this fascinating and often-overlooked chapter of aviation history.
“As a museum dedicated to preserving our aviation legacy, we’re honored to host this launch,” said Ray Polidano, Director of the Malta Aviation Museum. “Sicily and Malta share a profound connection in the sky, and this book allows us to uncover and celebrate that unique heritage.”
The author of the book, Fabrizio Egizi, also emphasised the significance of this event: “This book is the result of years of dedication to an untold story. It celebrates the rich aviation history and the powerful link between aviation and the communities of this region over the last century.”
Beyond aviation, the book also explores the cultural exchanges between Sicilian and Maltese communities, revealing how shared expertise fuelled advances in aircraft design and operation across the Mediterranean.
