In Autumn 2000, the Malta Aviation Museum Foundation acquired air-worthy Tiger Moth G-ANFW. The Museum is currently rebuilding a set of wings with the intention of putting the aircraft back in the air again. When complete, the Tiger Moth will wear a typical Royal Air Force colour scheme of the war period (Camouflaged top surfaces and trainer yellow under surfaces) and its original service number DE730. It will be registered locally.
Following the successful completion of the restoration works to airworthy condition of the steel and wood structure of the fuselage and wings as well as all cockpit instrumentation, Vintage Fabrics Limited has completed the fabric covering of the fuselage of the Tigermoth here in Malta. The four wings were exported to the Vintage Fabric's workshops in UK for fabric covering and works are currently in progress. The wings are expected to return to Malta during the forth quarter of 2009.
In the meantime, David Polidano and his team has been very busy painting the fuselage of the restored Tigermoth Biplane to the original RAF trainer colours. The four wings are expected to return to Malta ready to be installed on the fuselage in December 2009. Malta Aviation Museum Foundation is very keen to see its first airworthy historic aircraft take off to the skies during 2010.
