Air Battle of Malta Memorial Hangar

One of the most important periods in Malta's Aviation History is certainly the Air Battle of Malta that took place between 1940 and 1943. The Malta Aviation Museum Foundation feels it is fitting that a Memorial Hangar is erected, so that aircraft and artifacts related to this part of Malta's Heritage may be displayed under one roof - The Air Battle of Malta Memorial Hangar.

Restoration of Supermarine Spitfire MkIX salvaged from scrapyard
CLICK FOR MORE PHOTOS

The first ambitious project that was undertaken by the Malta Historic Aircraft Preservation Group was the restoration of a Spitfire MkIX registered EN199.

Late in 1992, Ray Polidano, today, the Museum's Director, collected various parts that were left from a scrapped Spitfire and commenced restoration work on the aircraft, working initially in his garage and later moving to a section of the hut which is now part of the Museum Complex. The reconstruction of the Spitfire was completed with the assistance of a number of volunteers, in time for Malta's celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of VICTORY IN EUROPE-Day.
